Hello,

For my english gcse, I've got to write an essay that is less than two sides and it can be on anything.

Last time I wrote about dog owning laws or something and I got a C, I'm trying really hard to get an A...but I can't get started..

If anyone has any suggestions on topic essays that may show a high level of intellect and maybe could increase chances of a higher mark. Thanks :)

  1. Try and be creative with your ideas. Don't write about something bland and unadventurous. To show your true ability in English, you have to show that you are capable of writing about complex themes and ideas. Try a moral issue or something you are passionate about. If you choose a complex theme, you will naturally be able to use more complex English.

  2. Write about things that interest you. That is the biggest point. If you write about something interesting and that you know a lot about then it will be fun and you are bound to get a high mark.

For me, it would be something science-y like black holes but there are plenty of topics:

    *A book you liked.

    *An event in History

*Could be a political point of view

    *Someone you admire, etc.

    Hope that helped! :)

  3. 'What I didn't do on my holidays.'

    Just a thought.

  4. It's a good idea to write about a contentious issue that has two opposite arguments.  You can they put both sides forward and come up with a your own ideas about the subject.  Try and do something that is relevant at the moment such as: Do video games make children violent?
