Question:

What's a good New Orleans cajun dish?

My Son is having a cultural food fair on Friday. His teacher has requested a dish that represents the family's cultural

background. I'm from Louisiana and would like to make something easy that 2nd graders might be willing to sample. Any recipes or suggestions?

  1. You might want to try a good Jambulaya. My nieces and nephews had no problem when they tried it. Simply chicken, sausage, rice, etc. Why dont you try this recipe by Emeril-its amazing! http://www.foodnetwork.com/food/recipes/...

Another recipes that you might want to try a simple gumbo recipes.

I dont think that 2nd graders would be into fried okra, or I would totally suggest that!

    Good Luck!

  2. pralines-

    beignets-

jambalya- if it can't be something sweet.

  3. I would agree that jambalya would be a good choice because it can be prepared at your home then reheated in a microwave at the school.  However, if you make it make sure you make it genuinely!!!  That means inclusive of real Louisiana style andouille sausage (DO NOT substitute kielbasa, especially the c**p that passes for commercial brand kielbasa in most of the USA), chicken and pork pieces and shrimp.  And with enough Tabasco or other hot sauce to give it a  genuine kick.
