What's a good USB Modem that I can use for my laptop?

I'm in college and the WIFI here is horrible. So I was wondering what type of modem I should get. I don't want anything too expensive but nothing cheap and crappy either. I was thinking maybe something from Verizon.

Go for a Linksys, D-Link, Netgear, Belkin, etc. Better hardware usually than what Verizon would use.

Actually, I assume the college has a port for you to plug a Ethernet cable in(no modem needed). If so, plug with the cable or set up your own wireless network with a router.
