Here's something creative that will be appreciated and you will have fun doing:

Make up a crossword puzzle and have all the hints be personal inside moments and jokes that only you two would know about. Put it on a poster board and add some clipart and some pictures to it!

The crossword puzzle could be time consuming and a bit frustrating ... you could do the same idea with a WORDSEARCH or WORDFIND puzzle.

Put your computer skills to work! Use Excel, get clipart from Yahoo Images Search, copy them, and reformat them, use a gluestick to put on posterboard.

Use graph paper, and pictures from magazines if you are not as good on the computer, and it will give it a homemade feeling.

If you haven't seen her in a while, then just take her out to dinner or a movie or something where you can catch up on old times.  Or get her a gift card for $25 (her age too! lol) for her favorite place to eat or shop.  It would be more meaningful if you took her somewhere though.  She'd remember it more.

Take a picture of her without her knowing, similar to a candid shot or maybe while she's busy doing something else(while in the beach, while playing a sport or while in office). Have it enlarged and framed.

If you have common friends, then I would suggest doing a dinner party and invite a few friends to celebrate it together.  You don't have to do it on her birthday because she might want to spend it with someone more important.  If cooking is too much trouble, then a book or a CD will always be popular.  It's hard to advise you unless I know more about your relationship with this young lady or how you want your relationship to develop.  If there's an romantic element in your relationship, then flowers, perfumes, something feminine (like make-up) will be appropriate but if you don't want to imply anything romantic, then CDs, books, a small pot plant or something useful will make good presents.

The thing to give her is something from yourself.  Give your friend something you created with your own hands and from your own heart/mind.  Jewelery is great and girls like it but I get the idea you want to make an impression, a real statement.  That's why you are sweating this gift.  Kung friends nalang, hinde masyadong isipin mo.  Don't hunt up something to give her that you think she might like.  Give her something you would love for her to have from you.  Life is too short to not too kick it's as*s every chance you get.
