I want to feed my dog a mix of dry and semi-moist dog food (she won't eat unless there's something mixed with the dry food) So what are some good quality brands of semi-moist food?

  1. Dry kibble is far better for her teeth, won't build up tartar on her teeth so much.

Mix a little canned like Canidae, or white meat, skinless boneless chicken or lean chop meat with her dry - she'll eat that I bet.

You can add some rice too.

  2. I mix dry food with two parts kibble, 1 part hot water.   The hot water makes it sorta like a stew, but not so soft as to lose the benefit of the dry food on keeping the teeth healthy.

The other advantage to pure dry food is that you can transport it anywhere - no worries about refridgeration!

It could also be that she doesn't like that particular type of dry food.  If you decide to experiment with different brands, make sure you transition the change over a period of about 5 days - gradually mixing higher proportions of the new food into the mix.

When I was trying to decide what food to feed my pup, I did some google searches on what other owners had to say about various brands.

I settled on Pro Plan for Puppies (chicken and rice formual).  My 18 week old pup gobbles this up in 5 minutes flat!   And he has lovely, firm stools as well :-)

btw - I do not recommend mixing any kind of people food as someone suggested.  It is too rich plus it encourages them to mooch at the table for MORE people food.

  3. Good quality Semi moist... I think that is an oxymoron.
