What's a good cellphone company to buy from?

My mom and I are looking to buy cellphones for work and school. They won't be used that much or anything. So, whats a good company to buy from? Like one that has a good deal for a family plan or something like that? Can you buy a cellphone on ebay and then get it minutes with a calling card or how do you get minutes on a phone bought from ebay? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks! :)

verizon is a pretty good cell phone company. and t-mobile is a good one too. i've had them for about four years and they've always been really helpful and they have extremely reasonable plans too. their phones are durable and i get service almost everywhere. definitely do NOT get sprint. some of my friends have sprint and they have all told me that it's pretty expensive and that they've gotten screwed over on their bill a bunch of times. u.s. cellular is really expensive too.

Verizon is really great. I have had AT&T but they overcharge you and your bill is always outrageous. Take it from a 15 year old who pays his OWN cell phone bill. Sprint is too expensive, and T mobile has a bad network, Verizon has the cheapest and best phones, and my phone bill is always affordable. Plus they have the best network, so this is great for texting in class. Even though you are not supposed 2 do it

the 02 store or carphone warehouse  they both give you great deals .. good luck finding your phone..:D

AT&T is good they always have service. Alltel is another one. NOT SPRINT you always lose service no matter where you are!!
