i'm a college student and i'm interested in getting a credit card. I bank with wachovia if that information is needed. I've heard good things about a credit union. Basically i want the credit card to 1. build good credit since i have none and 2. use it for emergency purposes. i do have a full time job so paying off the card isn't an issue. so what credit card do you recommend?

  1. Normally I rip into people about using credit cards because their the devil, but it actually sounds like you would use one responsibly.  I'd look for one that gives you some kind of rewards back, and then be sure to pay it off in full every month so you never end up paying interest.  Also make sure that it doesn't have any kind of yearly fees.

  2. You might want to start with a debit card first if you have never had a credit card before.  Many college students get in trouble with credit cards because they have never had them before.

  3. Start with your local bank. If that's no good, then hit up the Big Banks....Bank of Am...Capital One...etc...

Look for no annual fee, low interest, grace period of at least 21 days.

Cash back and rewards is good too.

  4. I highly recommend Citi Bank.  They have a great selection of cards for students and once you build your credit you can easily upgrade to their other cards.

For a limited time right now, they are offering a really great deal (reward wise) for 3 months.

  5. I have a couple of cards.  One I got my first year of college and they give them to students like candy.  Its AT&T Universal Card and the bank is Citibank.   I think the number is 800-308-6537.

The one I like is Discover because I have a low interest rate and its a good credit company.  Check them at www.discover.com.
