Hi, I'm 6'6, 175lbs - yeah, real tall, real lanky. I've just gotten my license and am starting to look for a bike. I'd really like a cruiser but I'm not sure what to look at - it seems the ones with lower cc's are too small and those that are large enough for me have too much power. I'm just looking to enjoy the ride - not kill myself. Thanks in advance

  1. Just answered a similar question.  I'm  6'5" 210 and rode a '95 Honda Nighthawk 250 a little over a year to start on.  You may want to look at dual purpose bikes, too; they have high seat heights.  Check out the forum I refer to in the source link; it is a wealth of information for new riders.  Be careful out there!

  2. There is no such thing as too much horse power.  You are not a small person, so do not buy a small bike, I would only reccomend a small bike, if you were a small/lightweight person.  You will start regretting buying a small bike about the end of the second or third day.

Power is controlled by the throttle, not by the engine, weight is the biggest concern for a beginner, not power, but again, you are not a small person.

Buy a big bike, what you really want,, so that when you start riding with your friends, you can both keep up, be confortable, and be on what you wanted in the first place.

  3. Look at Kawasakis 900 cruiser. This is a full size 650lb cycle so be sure you are up to it. The HP is about 50 so easily manageable. Perhaps buy something cheap for a few months to get the hang of things ... granny drivers, cement trucks, potholes etc.
