What's a good definition for a road yield sign?

  1. They are called give way signs in the UK and basically mean that the other road/lane (depending on the context) has right of way over you.

    If you want to pull out of a minor road onto a major road, you wait for a gap, and the people on the major road don't worry about letting you out. This is because they have right of way, and you are yeilding right of way (or giving way) to them.

    The give way sign is just to warn you that the users of the other road/lane expect you to give way to them.

  3. it basically means that you do not have to stop.  if there are no cars coming, you can just go and not worry.  however, if there are cars coming, then you have to slow down and let them pass before you can merge.  you may even have to stop and wait for there to be an opening.  so, the people already in the lane you are merging with has the right of way, and you need to wait for a clearing to merge.
