What's a good digital video camera?

I'm thinking about buying a digital video camera. I want to make some films. Maybe about an hour in length each, possibly a little over. Anyway, I don't want to produce crappy movies that people can't see or understand, so what's a good brand of camera to get? If possible (I know it's a little low) I'd like to keep the cost under $300. I'd be willing to go over a bit. I don't need a 5 star camera, but I want it to look really good and polished. I appreciate it.
