All too often these pretty sketchbooks are filled with slick paper suitable for some pencil work, ink, and maybe markers, but little else.  But most often the paper is too thin, and ink and colors will bleed through.  I would work on one side of the paper only, using a slip sheet of heavier smooth paper between it and the next sheet to protect it, and I would test various mediums early so you do not waste time using things that are not compatible with your paper's surface.  That is, unless yours is the book containing 200gsm cold pressed watercolor paper. . . .

Here is a review on WetCanvas! about Moleskine sketchbooks . . . I hope yours is the kind that this artist adores!

If you want a sketchbook that can be used for real field sketching, buy a Strathmore spiral or a Robert Bateman recycled 110# paper pad.  . . . both will take pencil, colored pencil, light watercolor washes, pen and ink, markers, and charcoal/pastels to some extent.  I am afraid you may just have a pretty, expensive, and for art purposes, more or less useless sketchbook.  We can learn from our mistakes, however . .. .
