  1. Speaking as both a college instructor and someone who's subbed in the public schools, let me say that there are lots of reasons why someone would be a bad teacher.

Some just don't care at all about the students and are only there to collect a paycheck. Others don't know the subject very well and simply "fake it." Some just can't explain things in terms students can understand. Others are quite mean, arrogant, and/or very cocky. So there are many reasons for bad teaching.

  2. It's sooooo easy to be a bad teacher. It's really hard, though to be a good teacher.

Pretty much, a bad teacher is one who lectures to the students, does not allow for think time, and uses multiple choice answers for tests. Has no motivation, and provides no inspiration to the class. A bad teacher is lazy, and who tends to watch the clock.

  3. A friend in my education course has a saying that a good teacher makes hard work easy and a bad teacher makes easy work hard. so true.

  4. A bad teacher is a teacher who lacks empathy. You see this a lot with math and science teachers. They teach the subject material; the material is usually cut and dry and black and white, right or wrong. They teach this as best as they can, and usually from a method they feel provides the most success. However, if the student doesn't get it, they may get harried, and try ways of teaching that they may not have familiarity.

My college level Spanish teacher was like this. I couldn't, and still can't grasp Spanish if my life depended on learning the language. She would get so upset; and seeing as how she was a native speaker (living in Bolivia for 30+ years can do that to anyone) she had little idea why anyone can't grasp the language.

  5. as a teacher, i work everyday to make sure that the subject matter i'm teaching is taught in as many modalities as possible.

IE: songs, art projects, books, games, discussion, movement

this covers auditory, kinesthetic, visual, tactile, and oral learners. it works on inter and intrapersonal skills, as well as spatial, linguistic and logic skills.

teachers often tend to forget that if a student isn't grasping a topic, and they really ARE trying, then it's the teachers fault and thus their responsibility to help the student through it. if your teacher fails to do this, and you've asked for help and not recieved it - that says a lot more about your teacher than you.

  6. ARROGANCE.

  7. Somebody who does it just for the sake of having a job

    Puts no effort into lessons

    Doesn't care about the students

Doesn't grade or hand back work
