what's the best grass to plant in the fall? my yard is half shade, half sun most of the day, and i have 4 large dogs who are in and out of the yard throughout the day. i've tried almost everything, to no avail. i guess too much doggie traffic takes its toll. thanks for the suggestions.

  1. It's the doggy pee not the trafic. Try and get them to use the same spot maybe make them a little sandy area to poo and pee.

  2. all depends where you live. If in the south or dry west you need a Bermuda mix. Kentucky Blue is good for the colder temps. You should go to your county extent ion agent and they'll tell you what grass is be for your needs and area.

  3. Tall Fescue would probably be the best for you. its a lil tougher than kentucky bluegrass and it can go through hot summers and frozen winters pretty well. it goes well in shade and in direct sunlight, too.  whatever you do, DO NOT plant zoysia

  4. there is a grass for shade anywhere, like home depot.  but otherwise you may have to resort to stepping stones in the immediate area.  there are many kinds and colors available and should be going on sale for fall shopping.  you could put a little[shade]seed inbetween them.  otherwise call the concrete mixer and pour a pretty circular slab to take the eye off the worn spots.  place a taller planter of some sort with a bright flower in the season to also catch the eye to something pleasing.  good luck and have fun.
