  1. Hi :)

    A good intermediate drum set is Tama over Yamaha. The hardware is pretty sturdy and strong and you can always upgrade by adding more toms, floor toms, etc..

    You also have Pearl which is a beautiful popular drum. Figure on spending $500

  2. I play a very expensive Pearl set even though I am a beginner. I think the most important thing is your hardware. I know a guy who plays percussion in the BSO and he likes my hardware better than his. I would go to your local Guitar Center. Their Drum sections are Really Great. Ask the guys there what you need. Do not buy online. Either get a tama or a pearl. Pearl protone heads are the way to go. And just so you know, Vic Firth makes the best sticks.
