Question:

What's a good low-calorie alternative to tapioca pearls?

I love bubble tea and was hoping to start making it at home to save a little money, but while I was searching online for suppliers I found that the tapioca pearls in bubble tea are 200-500 calories of pure carbs! Eek!

Does anyone know anything that might be a good alternative, like perhaps soy pearls if such a thing exists? Recipes or sites where they can be purchased are both okay! I'm up for all kinds of creative ideas.

  1. They are 300 cal. per 100 grams in tapioca-pearls - that's just 100 cal. per ounce. How many do you use a day???

If such a small amount of carbs will tip your balance, you really eat too much bread/rice/pasta/sugar ..

Carbs are not unhealthy - unless you sit on your behind all day, doing nothing. Then they will eventuall be stored as fat.

But if you exercise just ½ hour every day, you burn loads of carbs before they're turned into fat.

Sugars are ready to burn immediately - the other types of carbs are "slow", meaning they need about 12 hours to be ready as muscle energy.
