  1. Might be hard to answer (considering the £400/~$740 budget).  If you're aiming to play games like Crysis, you may want to research building your own computer.  Having a powerful graphics card is all about the CPU and video card while sufficient RAM can supplement your system.

Otherwise, this is a good place to start:

    *UPDATE*

    To add to Vtor's suggestion:

    > any monitor <= 5ms works

    > 2GB is the standard for gaming.  More may be required if you are using Vista

    > NVIDIA and ATi are the two major video card companies.  Currently, the newest card are the NVIDIA's 9800 series and the ATi's Radeon 4800 series.  However, anything that's one or two years old works well with any game today (e.g. ATi's Radeon 3800 series or NVIDIA's 8800 series)

    > Knowledge of having a good cooling system is needed (fan or watercooling) or you'll have some pretty burnt computer parts...

    > Faster the hard drive's RPM, the better.  7200RPM is sufficient, though

    > Sound card only supplements the sound system you have.  If you have regular speakers, any sound card will do (integrated into your motherboard is the best solution).  If you have surround sound, for example, you may have to research those parts to get the best experience.

    > More wattage in your power supply, the better.

  2. Ok Alienware. Not 400 whatever currency you use.

  3. Well, I don't know how much that is in Canadian Currency though,

(Canadian is nearly the same as American) maybe clear that up first, I don't know which currency, or post how much it costs in USD.

    Back to the question:

Most amazing gaming pc's are custom made, though if you want to buy a regular pc and use that for gaming try looking at this list of specs:

-Must be newer than Windows XP

-Must have at least 200 GB Hard drive (Most pcs now have a least 400 though)

-if internet gaming, make sure to have a good connection

-monitor with 2 ms (milliseconds response times)

    -at LEAST 1 GB RAM

-at least 17 inch monitor( you need to see don't you?)

    -good graphics/video/sound card

Ask your salesperson about these specs, where I live this can be purchased for around 600 CAD.

These specs will ensure that you have plenty of space, thus also decreasing amount of lag etc.

  4. dude think of building yours...

  5. above poster made a good list

just want to add a couple of comments

    1) while 2ms is good, 5ms is sufficient for gaming

    2) in terms of memory, you need at least 2gigs

  6. For gaming specially you need to buy a good grafic card (VGA)

There are a remarkable variety of graphics cards on the market aimed at gamers. While the very latest technology is always expensive, there are also solutions for those who don't have hundreds of dollars to spend. These video cards were selected because they are good values in their class, and they are ordered roughly from fastest (most expensive) to slowest (most affordable). I can't include every quality card, but I do update the list when I can, so your suggestions are welcome
