Intend to go in August, don't mind meeting locals and enjoying local hospitality but must be clean and hospitable. Thank you.

  1. 1. Luke T - Egypt is NOT in Kenya!!

Either the North coast or Diani at the South Coast of Mombasa.

Diani has a beautiful bright white beach lined with palm trees.

I envy you going there!!  I am from the South coast of Mombasa but now live in UK for my sins!!

    Have a great holiday.

  2. EGYPT !!!!!!!!

  3. http://www.bamburiresort.com/

Just outside Mombasa and you can retire to relative safety of the complex after a day of local hospitality, which can be over the top sometimes :0)

Very clean, very friendly and if you visit Portland Cement wildlife park you will see some of the snakes they have captured in the chalets. I kid you not, it's Africa!

  4. Diani Beach

    Funzi Island

    Wasini Island

these are all in close proximity and you can go snorkling and diving in Funzi.

But the Island is small, only has about 100 inhabitants and they might get pretty hostile if you insist on taking pictures of them or degrading them. If you respect their presence then you'll will do just fine but don't go around giving candy and sweets to children or taking pictures of locals without asking for permission.

  5. you would be best served by booking a hotel on bamburi beach, ie. travellers, bamburi beach hotel, whitesands, and many more on that stretch of beach, its only 30-40 minutes  drive from the airport, and only 100 yards or so from the hotels to the bus stops(matatu)that take you into mtwapa or mombasa town (ie fort jesus) the local wildlife park is called haller park, just up the road is the crocadile farm, they have snakes, and croks apart from other animals,  just walking distance from travellers and bamburi beach hotel is a wooded walk called the butterfly sanctury, if you like a drink i would advise all inclusive, its more economical.

  6. You specifically asked for something "not too crowded."  I would suggest staying away from Bamburi, despite other people's suggestions.  If you happen to be there on a weekend or a public holiday, you're bound to be surrounded by hundreds of people on Bamburi beach.

Tiwi is a very nice secluded beach, with plenty of opportunity to meet locals or to keep to yourself.  It's a very beautiful beach with great snorkeling.  Diani is the widest, whitest major beach you can go to.  There are more hotels there, but you can still keep to yourself if you want.

  7. I'm staying at the Barumbi Beach hotel in August, i've heard it's lovely.

And i see someone has even already suggested it up there ^^.

    Might see you in August!!!

  8. Mombasa def., either south coast or north coast. Other islands are most appropriate for couples, not quite a family place with kids.  Get a hotel that has  baby sitting services,  mostly only 4 - 12years old.  if you want any further help write to me.
