  1. Get a bunch of those clay pots and have your kids paint and decorate them for their moms.  Then, the Friday before mothers day, plant a little flower in them, like a marigold or petunia or something you can buy in bulk.  My mom was a preschool teacher and was good at lots of little projects.

  2. May FLOWERS!

Great time to start some plants, get some from a nursery, compare seeds, etc.

Learn some of the common flowers (rose, tulip, etc.)

  3. Do someting about plants adn aflowers then they can plant flowers for their moms for Mother's Day. Or do a  unit on family and read stories about mommies etc.

  4. Oh isn't May a fun month?  The month of flowers and mothers and bugs.

You could have an ant farm and watch a national geographic video on ants.  (My three and four year old squatted outside for two hours on Thursday watching ants.)

You could plant beans in baggies with tissue paper.  You could paint little terracotta pots.  You could have a tank with an animal in it.

You could get the kids to bring in a picture of themselves and photo copy them in black and white then get the kids to cut them in four and glue them to a piece of white card, with a sweet sentiment on the right, like "I love you mom".

You could fill your classroom with plants and talk about different leaves, and about the patterns of the leaves.

You could bring the kids outside and get them to lay down and look up at the sky and name the "types of clouds".  You could do a "precipitation tank" and fill a tank with water and talk about the rain cycle and how rain evaporates and then forms droplets and falls to the ground.

You could get sheets of bug stickers, flower stickers and heart stickers and get the kids to put them in a pattern (bug, flower, heart).

You could write a story sheet and get the kids stickers to put that number of things in a box on the right.

9 friends to help her raise me________________

10 wishes that only she'll see________________

    Or whatever...

Hope I gave you something useful...

  5. I would do bright flowers for spring.... since "april showers bring may flowers. " I would have children make flowers and you could make a spring bulletin board from it. You could also go on a fieldtrip to a greenhouse or flower shop. There are many different learning activities, books, and crafts you can do with a flower theme.

  6. Depending on whether or not you have distinctive seasons, what about "spring"!  In Canada, you might want to do "Victoria Day" -- unfortunately, many people don't realize exactly what we celebrate in May.  Or, some sort of environmental theme, whatever is unique to your region weather wise.

  7. May flowers?  Too late for May baskets though

  8. Umm, you could have them go outside and like catch butterflies and look at bugs and stuff like that! I have a 3 year old cousin and she loves doing that! You could make things out of clay like butterflies, suns, clouds, anything! And, to decorate the room for this month, you could get those stickers that you hang on windows and stuff. Have the class help make decorations for the classroom! I hope this helped, if not then email me!!!!!! ♥ good luck! ♥

  9. Possible themes for the month of May for preschoolers:

    Mother's Day (you mentioned)

    Spring

    Flowers

    Bugs

    Birds

    Baby animals

May is Better Hearing and Speech Month (great time to talk about the 5 senses)

May is also Better Sleep Month (great time to talk about day and night and hibernation)

May is also Egg Month (great time to talk about where eggs come from and farms)

May is also Older Americans Month (great time to talk about families, especially grandparents)

May is also Physical Fitness and Sports Month (a great time to talk about exercise and healthy habits)

The second week in May is Nurses Week and Police Week (great time to talk about community helpers)

May 13 is Frog Jumping Day (that's always a fun theme for preschoolers)

  10. well i would think the best theme for the 2nd week of May is MOther.......... u can get children to bring different pics of them and their mom.. draw pics of their mom.. ask them to discuss wat's the roll of a mom at home and etc

  11. Mother's Day.  There are lots of books related to mothers, including diverse and alternative families.  Activities can be found at Enchanted Learning online.

  12. How about the good old May Pole Dance ? The kids go around a huge pole with huge colored ribbons that eventually make a lovely pattern... there are of course intertwining dance steps, but they are easy.

OR, how about a clothesline that have pre-cut cardboard shirts with drawings on the shirts, then string that across the room. Maybe you can attach some photos to the shirts as well.

  13. flowers

    family/families/family members

    plants

    transportation---preparing for vacations

    dinosaurs
