Preferably in 30-30, but not mandatory. I don't care about looks, as long as the guts are good.

  1. They sell used ones where I live in good shape for about 250 bucks.  You can get them new I think for around 350.  If you can pick one up for 200 bucks thats not all beat to h**l, your doin pretty good.

  3. A great price for a used workhorse ...$150-250, here in Ohio.

A Marlin in great shape can almost cost you as much as new, especially if it has any optics mounted on it.

You will have to look long and hard for a Marlin that is so worn out that it's not a great firearm. They just don't die.

Mine is chambered in .35 Remington. It can stop a charging bear, or just about anything else..for that matter. Some folks prefer the 30-30.

The new-ish Hornady "leverevolution" ammo really, really, really improves the performace of all lever guns.

  4. $200 to $250 in very good to excellent is about right

Might find and well used hunter for around $150

Generally one that is that beat up on the outside is going to be a go to gun for a dedicated hunter and will be hard to find unless the owner is dead and his kids or widow are selling

    I've only seen it twice

  5. I would suggest the Marlin 336 30-30
