Question:

What's a good program to help you zoom and clean pictures? I'm looking to zoom in then sharpen the image.?

I have some digital photos that I'm looking to enlarge but I need a program to return them to something approaching their previous pixel rate. Basically something to remove the fuzz from the enlarged photo. I'm sure there is a technical term but that's the best I can explain it. I have a windows pc, not an apple, so it needs to be compatible.

Thanks for the help

  1. The best way is to enlarge with a technique that doesn't blur the picture, there's a new technique that allows to enlarge with almost no blurr and it also allows to remove JPEG noise:

    http://www.imagiris.com

    (it's free)

Their examples are quite striking compared to Photoshop.

  2. well, thats not going to work is it?

the size of print from digital media, is wholly dependent on the pixels.

i use an 8MP Olympus and i can achieve A3 prints quite happily, HOWEVER, when i do a crop to head and shoulders (for instance) i can never get it past A4 without the image falling apart...

and, to be fair, youre not supposed to look at enlargements close up... we hang them and stand back.

but theres lots of free programmes out there

    ifranview is good

    fastone image viewer is another

Gimp 2.2 is a photoshop clone and will run on mac/linux or windows platforms.

    all free from download.com.
