Hi! I'm looking for an inexpensive Mini-DV camcorder with a few features. Preferably, decent resolution (better than my Sony HandyCam), FireWire support for transferring video to Windows Vista, and a jack for plugging in my own wireless microphone (3.5mm). Any recommendations? My Sony Handycam was great, but the quality is just subpar on the videos.

  1. I would recomend the sony handycam hc52 camcorder it has great picture and easily converts to the coputer the batery life isnt the greatest but you can a cheap longer lasting batery

  2. The entry Canon ZR900 and ZR930 miniDV camcorders have a mic-in jack - but no manual audio control. I don't know if this matters to you. Manual audio control is important when audio is REALLY LOUD or really soft...

Since you did not tell us which Sony you have, it is impossible to tell you whether the quality will be the same (under the same conditions).

Beyond this, the Canon HV20, HV30, Sony HDR-HC7 and HDR-HC9 have a mic in jack and manual audio control... and do high defintion (HDV).
