What's a good-quality kayak for beginners (for lakes, shallow rivers, still waters) that won't flip? comfy 2?

  1. Are you looking to buy?  If so, I would go with an inflatable if I were you.  Its probably going to be the most forgiving and stable.  Such as this one: http://www.rei.com/product/736947  They also make a single version.

    If you are looking to get really serious into kayaking, consider renting first.  Look for something that is very wide to start out with. Tell the rental person that its your first time and you're looking for a stable boat.  Get a feel for what you like and don't like, then buy what you want.

    Also, find out what the water temperature is where you will be paddling.  If you wouldn't feel comfortable taking a bath in that temperature of water, get a wet suit.  Hypothemia can ruin your day in a hurry - a lot quicker than most people think.  (and don't forget the PFD too...)
