Question:

What's a good saddle for me?

I'm looking to buy a new saddle. I have pretty long legs so a saddle with longer flaps would be good. I want an all-purpose saddle that I can use on for jumping, flat work, showing, and trails. My price range is anywhere around $600. Not much more than that though :) And less would be great as long as it's a good quality saddle.

  1. I would look at used saddles. Pessoa makes a really long flap on their saddles. I have a custom county saddle for my extremely long legs.

My mom has a wintec 2000 all purpose and loves it. Just be aware the Cair system may make your horses back sore [personal experiance] and you should buy a thick pad or preferably a sheepskin half pad to go under it to make up for the flocking that isn't present in the saddle. The saddle is very comfortable and durable. I rode in it for 3 years until i could afford a custom saddle for my legs.

Good luck. Deffinately look for a used saddle. You can get a high quality saddle for a fraction of the origional price, and it is already broken in

  2. I'm guessing you want an english saddle? Those are usually a bit more than $600, but it really depends on where you buy it, and which brand you buy. Check out these:

http://www.equine.com/products/search_re... (some of these are western)

http://www.saddleshop.com/ (CHECK OUT THE FIRST SADDLE ON THIS PAGE- only $125)

http://www.chicksaddlery.com/page/CDS/CT... (here are lots of good ones under 600)

If I find more I will let you know!

  3. I would go with a gently used Stubben Siegfried.  First of all they hold their value if cared for, secondly sounds like you're just starting out and a deeper seat will help you be more secure and in the proper position.

I'd try ebay first but know your seat size and the size of your horse.

  4. You need a quoder

Great quality new and used saddles (I perfer a quality used saddle for $600 than a new $600 saddle).

I bought a used dressage saddle from here for less than $500. I love it and it is still in good enough condition to show in.

  6. Go to resale saddle stores. You can find some great gently used saddles for the price u want. I suggest u get an all purpose saddle with long flaps. Good Luck with buying a saddle.

  7. use and endurance saddle it looks like a western saddle with out a horn but it works like and English saddle it is very comfortably. id go for a abeta endurance saddle because when you sit in it, its like siting is a recliner. go to google or yahoo to see pic..
