Question:

What's a good salary requirement? Live-out nanny for 5 school-age kids?

I am looking for a nanny position for after I have my son so that I will still have an income and be able to stay with my son at the same time.

The kids are ages 5, 6, 7, 8, & 9. All in school. The position is Monday-Friday, but the kids will be in school during the day.

I don't really know any more details yet (regarding what I will be doing, transportation, tutoring, cleaning, cooking, etc..) but I am just trying to get a basic idea so that when the mother discusses salary requirements with me, I won't sound dumb throwing out some rediculous number.

  1. It really depends on what the job would entail.  Also, where you live and the mother's economic situation are key factors in deciding how much to ask.  But, just assuming that you would spend most of the time cleaning, lol and making sure homework gets done, etc.  and considering how it will also benefit you to be with your newborn and still earning money at the same time - I would say about $175 a week seems fair.  It would cost a lot more than that to put them in afterschool care.
