Question:

What's a good soap to use with softened/conditioned water?

We just put in a reverse osmosis system in the house. The water is nice and clean now, but I don't feel squeaky clean. The product information talks about this, saying that the "slick" feeling is your natural skin, "which you have never felt before." I feel almost like I've got baby oil on my skin. Okay, once I dry off, I feel just fine, but while I'm rinsing, I just feel like I have to keep rinsing and rinsing. I use Ivory Soap in the shower, as I have for most of my adult life. With our "hard" water, I always felt exceptionally clean. Interestingly, I noticed that my hair rinses very clean. Once I get the shampoo on my hands, they also feel like they rinse off totally. This makes me think that there must be some better soap to use in conditioned water.

What have you used and what do you recommend? Ivory Soap just isn't going to cut it for me anymore.

Any other comments are welcome. Laundry detergent... Dishwasher soaps...

Thanks.

  1. I've had the same experience when I got a water softener. And the information you got is correct. I guess you have to accept that feeling. and you will in time. Ivory soap is fine. Maybe you can use a body wash with one of those mesh balls or whatever they're called. Or use a loofah which is good for your skin, anyway.

  2. If you still haven't changed the filter for your water, then I guess it is time for you to change it, and so you can get better water softener.  Have you been to Bath and Body Works store in a mall or somewhere?  They have TONS of stuff that you can buy and get more soapy and cleaner.  I think.  They also have a website.  Another good thing, how about googling it and find out?  This is pretty much that I've known, but I guess it ok to use it.  I get the same feeling and all that too...

  3. A natual soap in the healthfood section of the grocery you can find it all there....they are better for the environment too...

  4. Oil of olay, dawn mild.

  5. sauve soap?!!

  6. Rule of thumb, the softer the water the more suds.

Use a soap that isn't very sudsy.  Try one of the health store selections like pure glycerin or french milled shea butter.

I'm soooo jealous!  would Love reverse osmosis on my kitchen sink, never let it enter my dreams to have it on my whole house!
