  1. So many great ideas already given. You could also ask the children to show you something that they can hear, see or taste. Or ask them to smell something and tell you what it is. Use your  and their imaginations. Create your own song or game.

  2. cam and amber's answers are great :)

    as a conclusion after the lesson I give each group a "face" to assemble, each group has something missing in their  "person's"face... the eye, the nose...etc... then I repeat the same activities of the lesson but ask the children to let their "person" do it this time...for each sense there will be a group whose "person" cannot do it because of the missing part.. have fun and laugh with the children, then take each person and pretend that it's talking to its group: what are you laughing at?come on! look for my "nose" and stick it on so that I can tell what this smell is! of course you will be hiding all the missing parts around the classroom, one group at a time look for their missing part, stick it on and celebrate!!!

  3. id do something like Cam's idea... but if i were u, id give them something like flowers to smell, fruits or maybe a  lil piece of candy to taste, shakers to shake... (obviously lol) and listen to the diff. sounds they make... and you can also ask them where their _____ is and what it does... (ex. where's ur nose; what do we use our noses for?)

  4. I love this lesson!!! The first thing I do is read a book about senses. Then I have stations where the children are broken up into groups (you can modify this, of course).

    For hearing: have a picture of water, rice, and blocks. Then, take three empty water bottles and cover them up with paper. Fill one with water, one with rice, and one with blocks. Have the kids shake the bottles and have them point or tell you what they 'heard.'

    For smelling: have a few cotton balls saturated with different scents (car scents work) and have pictures represent each one of the scents. Ask the children to identify the scents based on the pictures.

    For tasting: Put sugared water or a lollipop, lemon juice, potato chip, and lemon skin. Also have pics representing sweet, sour, salty, and bittter tastes. Have the child close his eyes and quickly swab the item on his tongue. Then have him identify the taste based on the visual cues.

    Visual cues are always a good idea. It helps the kids absorb the information better.

    Hope this helps. :)

  7. The Five Senses Song added 11-9-98 Original Author Unknown

    Sung to: "Old Mac Donald Had a Farm"

    On my face I have two eyes;

    Use them every day.

    They are used to help me see

    When I work and play.

    With a look, look here,

    And a look, look there,

    Here a look, there a look,

    Everywhere a look, look.

    On my face I have two eyes;

    Use them every day!

    On my face I have a nose;

    Use it all the time.

    When I sniff it I can tell

    Vinegar from lime.

    With a sniff, sniff here,

    And a sniff, sniff there,

    Here a sniff, there a sniff,

    Everywhere a sniff, sniff.

    On my face I have a nose;

    Use it all the time!

    In my mouth I have a tongue;

    Use it when I eat.

    Tasting with it I can tell

    Sour from the sweet.

    With a l**k, l**k here,

    And a l**k, l**k there,

    Everywhere a l**k, l**k.

    In my mouth I have a tongue;

    Use it when I eat!

    On my head I have two ears;

    Listening all day long.

    And if I didn't have them there,

    I couldn't hear this song!

    With a listen here,

    And a listen there,

    Everywhere a listen, listen.

    On my head I have two ears;

    Listening all day long!

    On my body I have skin;

    Feeling cold and heat.

    It stretches from atop my head

    Way down to my feet.

    With a touch, touch here,

    And a touch, touch there,

    Here a touch, there a touch,

    Everywhere a touch, touch.

    On my body I have skin;

    Feeling cold and heat!

    Sung to: "It's raining, it's pouring"

    I'm smelling, I'm smelling,

    my nose is busy smelling.

    This is the song I like to sing,

    When I smell most anything!

  8. Maybe something like 'Simon Says'? But instead of saying..."Simon says touch your ears..." say "Simon says listen/hear"?

  9. I can't believe there isn't a single song in my files that take in all five sense.  Most are about individual senses.  I bet if you search the internet for five senses songs you will come up with some that will work.

    Here is a "book" of riddles that you could make with the children or use the riddles for a game.

    Which of the Five Senses?

    •Create a collaborative book about senses.  ÃƒÂ¢Ã‚€ÂœI like to _______ because ________.  (I like to touch my hamster because he’s soft.)

    •Have children mimic how each animal in a riddle uses an unusual body part to have a sensory experience.  A cricket hears with an organ in its front legs.  Some bats have poor eyesight.  To locate an insect to eat, a bat sends out noises.  Then it listens for an echo bouncing off the insect.  A boa constrictor smells with its tongue.  A cat feels things with its whiskers.  An eel tastes with its skin.  A fly tastes with its feet.

    • Read Busy Bunnies’ Five Senses by Teddy Slater or My Five Senses by Aliki.  Have the children complete a chart showing the five sense and what part of the body is used for each.

    A cricket does this with its leg.

    I do it with my ears.

    I do it when a siren sounds

    Or people scream and cheer.

    What do I do?  (hear)

    A boa does this with its tongue,

    I do it with my nose.

    If someone’s baking cookie dough,

    Then I am sure to know.

    What do I do?  (Smell)

    A bat can use its ears for this.

    I do it with my eyes.

    I do it when I look at birds

    Or watch a full moon rise.

    What do I do?  (see)

    A cat has whisker just for this.

    I do it with my hands.

    I do it when I pat a dog

    Or feel the silky sand

    What do I do?  (touch)

    An eel does this with its skin,

    A housefly with its feet.

    I do this with my mouth each day

    When I sit down to eat.

    What do I do?   (taste)
