What's a good temp for inside the house in the humid south?

My husband and I are at odds over the temperature reading in our house! He wants it set at either 79 or 80 - we live in Central Alabama and it's incredibly humid not to mention just hot and I'm 51 and having horrid hot flashes to boot!! YIKES!!! Would love to know your opinion - he says 79 to 80 is a good temp - I would much prefer at least 77 but can deal with 78 even. 79 to 80 inside the house is just tooooooooooooooo hot it seems to me!! This is all going to depend what you think is comfortable, and what you can afford. I myself prefer it to be around 70, my wife likes it a little warmer (go figure) but if you are having hot flashes, no amount of air conditioning is going to help.

The best temperature is the highest temperature you can still feel comfortable in. Do you have ceiling fans, or even a floor fan you can turn on. The moving air will help you feel more comfortable without the expense of running the A/C at a lower temperature.

78 is optimum for energy efficiency. Can DEFINITELY understand the hot flashes! The A.C. will do it's best job of removing the moisture from the air if filters are kept clean. It's the humidity that makes it FEEL so hot! Best to you and your menopause! ;-)=

HVAC Tech.: The ideal temperature is the one you are most comfortable at. That being said there is the matter of moisture in the air. The warmer it is the more moisture, the cooler there is less. reason being the water is being removed as long as cooling is taking place. One other point is that while your money will be drier you will have less of it.

i live in fl where it is super hot 10 months out of the year.  i keep my ac on 85 when im working during the day and not at home, but when i come home i keep it on 75.  that keeps it relatively comfortabl without breaking the bank.  show your man who's boss.  if you like 77, i'd say 77 or no supper! ;)
