AWW... my sister is about to have her 1st anniv. too! Her idea is to have a candle light dinner. Your husband/wife's favorite meal that you cook. And then have the top layer of your wedding cake!

Depends how much you have to spend.  One idea is to go to a good Chicago restaurant, of which there are many.  National 27 is a good example.  The Melting Pot, even though it's a chain, is also pretty nice.  Then, go to a show, concert, or even a club.  Afterwards, spend the night in a nice Chicago hotel, such as the Allegro, Monaco, or Burnham.  There are plenty of other nice hotels, though, and you sometimes can find some good deals online.

You could do it up right at the house with something a little more special and different that usual or go to the best place in town you can afford.  After that...music and wine?  After that..........conversation??  Even after a year there are still s few things you may not know about each other.

My suggestion is  recapture the moment you realized you really loved each other. Do somethings that you done when you  went on your first date.
