What's a good tip for front desk staff?

Hello. I am checking out of my Venice hotel tomorrow and want to tip the front desk staff as they have been a great help arranging tours and dinner reservations. I want to leave a tip but unsure what is customary.

Also, there have been 4 guys working the desk (2 in the day and 2 at night). I've dealt mainly with the evening guys. Should I leave the tip to the front desk in general or is it acceptable to give it to one guy in an envelope asking him to deliver it to another?

The hotel is 4-star and I have been here 4 nights.

  1. In Italy it isn't costumary to leave a tip.

  2. Determine how well the service was and how courteous the desk people were.  I would ignore the no tip rule in any country unless you are with a tour group.  I always try to leave at least fifteen percent, just like in the U. S. A.
