  1. I would recommend that she go to your county court house and sit in on some criminal cases, watch and learn. TV is not real, the actual court hearings are both boring and intense.

  2. If she wants to be a good lawyer, turn off the TV.

If possible, she should try for an internship or volunteer opportunities in the prosecutor's office in her community.  She would get hands on experience in real life situations.  She would get to meet and ask questions of actual prosecutors.

Nothing on television could equal that experience.

  3. I'm sure you've heard of dramatic licence.  This means that what you seen on TV is exaggerated to help the story along.  While the shows try to be realistic, the practical truth is often too inconvenient to use.

Being a criminal lawyer involves *a lot* of paperwork, research, and time spent in court.  The best thing for your gf to do is go find a criminal lawyer to job shadow, or volunteer at a organization that provides legal assitance for those who can't afford lawyers.
