What's a good vacation spot for the first week of october? and possible with a smaller budget?

Im looking for a good vacation spot, hopefully where i dont have to drive, and if i do have to drive not to far from California. does anyone have any ideas other than Vegas?

i dont know where you can go but i know how you can save money bring a cooler and do sandwhiches and such in motel,keep cold drinks in cooler this alone saves over a dollar each time you get one,dont waste money on souvinors you wont use instead buy locale jams candies and such this will serve as a snack later,when renting a room dont just walk in off the street call ahead you will save big bucks there,when you decide where you are going check websites for local fairs and events most of them are free
