Ive just finished 'breaking dawn' by Stephanie Meyer and it was so d**n good, everything else seems rubbish in comparison! Ive tried reading loads but I end up just putting it down and reading breaking dawn again for the six millionth time. Ive tried the weird Georgia Nicolson books (yawn and not even vampire-ish) and thousands of other books, Im currently trying to read 'interview with a vampire'. Is there any other good vampire books?!

  1. The one that started it all off is an 1897 novel in journal form by Bram Stoker: _Dracula._ It is not a simple book, but if you get into it, it is very compelling. Take it out of the library--every library has a copy--in case you find it daunting. Stephanie Meyer is good; _Dracula_ is better but more adult. You might try a story by Edgar Allan Poe called "Ligeia." It's only 15 pages but the more you understand about it the sheerer the terror.

  2. Anne Rice would be my next choice in vampire books.  If you want something a little different, Fred Saberhagen also wrote some vampire books.

  3. Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicles comprises some of the best vampire fiction around.  'Interview with the Vampire' is probably my favourite but the two that follow - 'The Vampire Lestat' & 'Queen of the Damned' are excellent as well.  The rest of the series is a bit hit and miss - some of the books are great like 'The Tale of the Body Thief', 'Memnoch the Devil', 'Pandora' & 'Blood & Gold'.  But some are just terrible - I recommend avoiding 'The Vampire Armand', 'Blackwood Farm' & 'Blood Canticle'.

Anne Rice has stopped writing horror novels now & you can tell that by the end of the Vampire Chronicles series, she has seriously run out of ideas.

The 'Anita Blake' series is very good - but like the Vampire Chronicles, the last few books in the series are very weak.  Actually - they're beyond weak - they're terrible.  I would recommend reading as far as Book 8 or 9 and then avoiding the rest as they are hugely disappointing.  They all have the same basic story and the characters have either become dull and monotonous or just plain annoying.

You really can't do better than reading 'Dracula' by Bram Stoker.  It's a fantastic book and even though you know the story and have maybe seen the movie, everybody should still read the book.

Stay with 'Interview with the Vampire' though.  A friend of mine read it and found it difficult to get into but once she did, she said she couldn't put the book down.

My favorite is Sunshine, by Robin McKinley. I also recommend you check out the Anita Blake series, The Silver Kiss, Companions of the Night, and Dracula.

  5. Some good choices are "Carmilla" by Joseph Sheridan Le Fanu, "Salem's lot" by Stephen King and "The hunger" by Whitley Strieber, only to mention some.

  12. okay I know this isn't a vampire book, but I promise they are just as good. They are the Mediator books by Meg Cabot. Basically this girl falls in love with a ghost from the early nineteenth century named Jesse who lives in her new house. After I had read the twilight series, This is the series I thought most resembled it. But it has to do with the dead, not vampires. They're very good anyway. I hope you read and enjoy them. =]
