What's a good way to get to Vancouver BC, from Seattle?

I am planning to visit Vancouver Island (Victoria) during my stay in Seattle. Can't quite figure out whether it makes sense to drive or is it better to take a ferry. Any good advice?

  1. If you want to go to Victoria, you either have to fly or take a ferry. If you drive up I5 to Blaine and cross the border, then you have to drive up Highway 99 to Tsawassen and get on the BC Ferries there. If you take the Annacortes ferry, Victoria becomes your port of entry into Canada. If you enter via a seaport, you will need a passport. At a land crossing, birth certificate and photo ID gets you in (if you're an American citizen).

  2. Victoria is a city on Vancouver Island, so you will have to take a ferry, whether or not you take a car with you... (unless you fly over here)...

If you plan on just hanging out in the downtown area of Victoria, and/or do guided tours of the area, then you don't really need a car, so I would recommend taking the Clipper from downtown Seattle to downtown Victoria. There are plenty of hotels within a few minutes walk from the Clipper (and some right across the street from the ferry terminal)....

BC Ferry prices have just gone up. For two people plus a car, it's about $69 each way.

Other option if you want to bring your car is to drive to Port Angeles and take the ferry over here to Victoria (drops you off right downtown Victoria, while BC Ferries will drop you off in Sidney-about 40 mins drive from downtown Victoria)....

Good luck and I hope that you have a super visit here!!!!

  3. The ferry's your best option.

You can drive and enjoy the trip on the ferry too.

Victoria is on Vancouver island, that's right.

And the city of Vancouver is inland.

  4. So where are you going?  Vancouver or Victoria?  Two different places.  If you're going to Vancouver, point your car northbound on I-5 and go.  Once you're across the border it's highway 99.  Follow the signs to Vancouver.

If you're going to Victoria you have a number of options.  Mostl include driving AND ferry.  You can drive to Canada (see instructions above) following hwy 99 to hwy 17 then 17 west to Tsawassan (sp?)  Take the BC Ferry to Sidney then drive south on 17 to Victoria.  You could take the Anacordes Ferry from just outside Bellingham to Sidney.  You could take the Coho from Pt Angeles WA, to downtown Victoria, you could take the Clipper from downton Seattle to downtown Victoria.  Finally, it's much faster to just fly.  Get the point?  Do some research and most importantly decide where you're going.  Vancouver or Victoria.

  5. Go to hellobc and tourismvictoria    free guides for you

  6. It might make economic sense to first take there BC Ferry across to Vancouver and then drive down.

If you actually do mean you are going through Vancouver from Victoria to Seattle, you have a few options:

    - Car -  takes about 2.5 hours, plus some time for border crossing

    - Bus - you could take the Greyhound bus, or also the Quick Coach, express bus. If you have an "Entertainment" coupon book for Vancouver there are usually 50% off discounts for Quick Coach in it.

    - Train - the Amtrak Cascades takes 4.5 hours and costs under $30.
