Alright soo.. Most the time, I don't have the patience to sit and read through everything, then fill out questions.. I am homeschooled.. and I want to go to college/get a job/family.. but I can't do this without getting through school.. (Which, I happen to find pointless related to a job.. for some subjects that is..) I just need help figuring a way out.. Since I can't sit there and read it.. I usually try to look at a problem, then find the answer in the text,, which takes twice as long, getting half as much done, since I don't do much at a time..

  1. 1) You might have ADD/ADHD. In which case is the reason why you can't concentrate.

    2) You're a haptic learner like me. You can't learn in long stretches. I find that taking a 5 minute break goes hand in hand with a 20-30 minute intense session of studying/homework. Also, think of all the stuff you can do later if you just hurry up and finish it without something nagging you at the back of your head. Also consider life as a hobo and decide that you don't want to live like that.

    3) You could just be lazy. In which case, kick yourself out of that habit and do 5 minutes of exercise before you study. That also helps me study. Doing this will motivate you to study and you go to college/get a job. Think of your future!

  2. It sounds like you are using the wrong texts or wrong style of learning. It's not that hard to change, so do that. Read homeschoolreviews.com and see what others have to say about whatever books you are considering. Go to your library. Not everything needs to be learned from a textbook. Some people hate science, but are happy to read biographies of scientists, and pick up the info anyway. I can't get my head around politics or economics unless it's presented as part of history. Take what you've learned from your textbooks and think of ways of testing. It's all very well and good to be able to fill out geometry exercises, but that's not something most of us are required to do in our adult lives. Taking the rules you learn there and plotting a knot garden in your backyard is interesting, and will show you that the maths rules work. You don't have to use the curriculum you are using if you don't like it. Find something you like better and ask your parents for that. They probably won't care which textbook you use for maths as long as you learn it. They probably won't care which books you read for English, as long as you read something and learn to write. Have you and your parents ever actually spoken about your educational goals? What do they want you to learn? What is mandatory and what will they compromise on? What do you think you should learn? How do you want to go about it? If you want to chuck in the tests and workbooks, how can you demonstrate to your parents that you have learned stuff? It sounds as though you are all still stuck with an institutional school mentality. You have to satisfy the prerequisites for college. You have to satisfy the laws of where you live. You have to satisfy your parents. After that, satisfy yourself!

  3. Maybe you need something more structured like public school.

  4. So what is the problem here? You don't feel motivated to work at some of your studies?

I am not sure how you can predict what you will need to know to attend college successfully, and to perform your future job.

    There is no way out.

If you truly feel that you have a bright future ahead of you, then you have to jump through the hoops just like everyone else did, whether it is a public education or home schooled.

If you are truly ambitious I would say buckle down and get 'er done. Everyone had to do what they had to do, to get where they are today.

I wish you the Very Best of Luck!!

  5. 1) You need to set yourself some goals. Long-term and short-term goals. You should have a plan of action that you work out each day so you know where you are headed. Without this, you're like a boat floating aimlessly at sea.

    2) You have to set some rules for yourself. Maybe you'll have a rule of "30 minutes of solid work before a 5-minute break." Or "All work must be done before any computer time." Or something else related to your situation that you know you need to do to get yourself back on track.

  6. You aren't supposed to just learn the answers to the blanks in the questions, you are supposed to study the text!  You CAN sit and read everything, you just don't want to.  You will have to learn how to do it if you plan to go to college.
