  1. It depends on the style.

    I practice walking stick techniques.

These can either be done with a fixed target (like a large punching bag) or in a form similar to shadow boxing.

When you practice stick techniques with a partner you are only moving at 1/4 speed anyway!

  2. shadow boxing you can go through almost any movement any technique outside of judo or jj alone...heavy bags are good training aids for striking...

  3. Hmmm let me see...possibly your basics, or maybe even kata. You just need to make sure that you have an instructor that can actually show you what each individual technique is used for. Also be aware that a kata is not a fight. All of the techniques within are many individual fights, and should be trained that way.

Also make sure to pracice them with a resisting opponent when you have the chance, because this is a very importent part of kata or basic training.

  4. ah...... Kata............

That is why they where created, among other reasons.

  5. Make use of a heavy bag.  This will enable you to start with slow deliberate strikes and then as your confidence and ability increase, you can move into full force strikes.
