I'm getting a ferret really soon but I seriously have no idea what I'm going to need. I tried looking on google for websites but I can't find anything at all. I just need to know basic stuff I'm going to need. I know food and water, obviously, but what else? :)

  2. Read a whole bunch of websites. That way you can get a lot of different information along with what you get here. Make sure you want a ferret, they are a handful. They need time out each and every day. They are stinky! lol and They can get into anything that their head can fit into. But they can be cuddle they love to play and they are very very amusing. Any specific questions that you have you can email me so I know exactly what you need to know..which is a lot lol lilpuertoricanchick89 plus the websites below are pretty helpful

  3. I recommend http://www.hugawoozel.com/

It gives helpful tips on owning a ferret and even features a message board, photo gallery, and a lot of other cool stuff.

Also, get the book "Ferrets for Dummies" by Kim Schilling. It's a great reference guide and a really nice book about ferrets.

  4. I can think of a list of supplies you would need:

    Like you said food, water

A heavy bowl to put the food in, a water bottle

A hammock or something for them to sleep in

A large cage, (at least 2foot x 3foot), with at least two levels

    Toys, chewables

    A litter pan/box

Shampoo, made for ferrets (only bathe maybe 2-3 times a year)

That's all i can think of for now

Good luck with your new friend!

When I got my ferrets, I just started like I would a dog. Researched for about an hour. And then I didn't research until I had gotten my ferrets and had questions. Alls you do is get the ferret and start lovin it like you would a dog. Feed it Water it and love it. But I would stick with looking at websites with ferret owners. Tahey often tell it like it is adn have the most expeience.

Here's the upsides and downsides of owning ferrets.

Upsides: You can keep them in cage. They are very friendly. They take pain really well. They are hilarious. They sleep most of the day. You can entertain them with simple things - such as a Jolly Rancher bag. They are easy to give a bath. They get along great with other pets and people. They are intelligent.

Downsides: They shed. They do really smell. Their p**p is the worst smell ever. They smell like a skunk if you miss their monthly bath. They are expensive to care for. They are very social - and often require a ferret buddy. They are hard to potty train. They cost a lot to buy. You have to take them to the vet often. A lot of vets do not do ferrets. They do not give up trying to get into things. They do like making messes. They are hard to keep track of unless they are in a cage.

But they smell really bad. You can get them descented, but they still smell really bad. You walk into my Dad's house and that's all you can smell. It gives me a headache. The first time I cleaned out their cage, I puked.
