What's a great destination to visit from NYC by train? I recently traveled by rail in Europe and would like to do the same in the US. I'd like to try a destination that is more than 10hrs away by rail.

  1. NO where

American Rail is slow and not dependable.

    Ex rail worker.

Take a plane to your visit

Drive and you can control you experience.

    Sorry

    But truth told here.

    Ba please

  2. I often traveled to Florida from NY and back. It took 24 hours and just meeting people on the train, enjoying the club car and I always found the food was pretty good.

  3. Grand Central Station, is well worth a visit.

  4. Heya!

Plenty of destinations by rail from NYC:  On the Amtrak Acela Express, you can hit Boston, Philadelphia, or Washington DC.  On the Hudson River water level route, you can hit Niagara Falls (10 hours), Toronto (15 hours including clearing customs to go to Canada), or Montreal (10 hours, also need to clear customs).  You can also hit towns on the Maine coast, which is very scenic this time of year.

All these are long distance trips.

If you want to take shorter trips, there are plenty of weekend destinations in the NYC area accessible by rail--  You can take the Long Island Railroad leaving from Penn Station or Jamaica to places like Montauk or Greenport.  Plenty of beaches and ritzy boutique shops to browse at those places out on the east end of LI (the Hamptons are the playground of movie stars and billionaires, after all).

I'm not as familiar with the Connecticut coast, but attractions there should be accessible via the Metro North Railroad, leaving from Grand Central Terminal, or Amtrak from Penn.  Places like Mystic Seaport in eastern Connecticut.

Plenty of rail destinations around NYC, that's fer sure!  Have fun, and good luck!
