What's a great pokemon diamond team?

i chose turtwig as a starter.

Turtwig.  Now this pokemon evolves into Torterra with a quad weakness against ice, so you need a STRONG fire type with good moves.  Try to have a variety of types, I say that it is almost compulsory to have a flying, fire, grass, water and electricity poke.  I suggest EV training, (look here http://www.gamefaqs.com/portable/ds/file... and try not to fall asleep (i'm kidding! But it is long and very boring).  Also, look to moves like swords dance and nasty plot to kill the Elite 4.  

Good Pokemon

Ponyta-Rapidash This fire pokemon is fast and efficient. Available early in game

Empoleon- Good all rounder.  Has quite a high Sp. Defense and Defense.

Graveller- Good ingame.  Learns wide variety of moves.

Legendary pokemon (e.g. Dialga, Palkia,Zapdos).  I suggest Palkia.  Good moves, less weaknesses then Dialga. Zapdos.  Hard to get your hands on, but excellent.  Basically no weaknesses

Lucario-  Excellent Steel fighting type.  One of few pokemon which learn Aura sphere.  Available in prevolution Riolu after completing Iron Island.

Dragon Type pokemon.  Great stats in basically everything.

Staraptor- Good ingame.  Do not use in GTS! most people will KO you

Tyranitar-  Awesome pokemon.  Will HURT

Absol- Great R/s/e pokemon.  Good for killling.

Blissey, registeel, steelix- Superb defense.  Good as sustainers or counterers.

Alakazam/Porygon-z-  Competition standard special sweeper.  It has SUPERSUPERSUPER sp.attack, rival to legendaries!

Gyardos-  Great as the standard Tauntadros (competition battleing). One of my favourites.

Weezing-  What I used in Battle Frontier Emerald. As a pokemon which Hazes.

Suicune (legendary)-  A popular one amongst GTS (obtainable in FR) people.  Commonly used with Ice beam, rest, mirror coat and Surf @leftovers.  Absolute fav.

Skarmory-  Super, one of my favourite.  Also obtained in Emerald, however.  Unique type combo.
