What's a nice and loud guitar amp?

One that isn't too expensive (maybe around $100, no more than $250) but is loud enough to wake a small gated community when cranked up to full blast. If not that, just one for gigs with a small audience, maybe a room with around 50 people. Maybe more, maybe less, but the amp, nonetheless, should be loud enough to have everyone hear the guitar well.

I was thinking of getting a Vox or Kustom, but I wanna make sure I'm getting something good first. Therefore I'll ask here on Yahoo Answers. :D

My band plays some sort of progressive alternative, if that will help at all.
