Question:

What's a normal weekly grocery budget for two people?

I'm trying to readjust budgets for our family for the first time (newlyweds). Only problem is I was never taught how to do this, and never had to learn.

Here I am having to learn, so I was curious as to what people seem to think a decent, average food budget is for two people per week. Thanks!

  1. My fiance pays for groceries for the two of us and it is usually about $75.00 every two weeks, but we buy cheap at Super Walmart to save on costs.  If we go to an actual grocery store its at least $100.00 or more.

  2. $75-$100  A WEEK IS DECENT FOR MY FAMILY OF 7 IT'S ABOUT $200 LUCKILY BOTH MY PARENTS ARE NURSES.

  3. We're feeding a family of 4 on about $200 a month. I shop at Safeway, Costco, Trader Joes, and Farmer markets.

We focus on fresh food. Mostly stuff that has no brand name. Bulk rice, veggies, lean ground meats, fresh chicken breast meat.

I shop using the sales ads and I use printable coupons from www.smartsource.com and cpns from Sunday's papers.

  4. Well, that depends on what you as a young person like to eat!  My son and finance are facing this same problem since they just purchased their first home.  The price of groceries has sky-rocketed.  Here's what I do, learn to cook things that you can make two meals off of instead of one.  Learn to cook real food instead of fast food which is expensive.  Purchase items such as spaghetti or bags of frozen chicken that will make several meals.  Cut back on the high dollar soda pop!

You should probably spend around $100.00 a week if you really watch what you are doing.  Learn to shop at the Dollar General Store for paper products and cleaning supplies.  Also, it saves a lot if you learn to pack a lunch instead of McDonalds!  (my son's favorite stop)  Good luck.  Hope this helps.
