  1. usually the repo's (as many people call them) are done in mid to late September and in May.

  2. The title is called a REPOSITIONING cruise.  It is a special cruise that has an itinerary (port stops ) that are not the usual stops for that ship.  Repositioning cruises are always one-way;  they leave from one port city and end in another.

Cruise ships normally have one port, like Miami or LA, that they start and end their cruises in.  Some cruise itineraries are only run certain times of the year because of the weather.  For example, Alaska cruises are only run from May until September.

At the end of the season for that cruise the ship goes to a new home port for round trip cruises.  So the ship that was doing Alaska starting in Seattle may make a one way cruise to Miami.  Instead of taking the ship to Miami vacant, the cruise line offers a repositioning cruise with stops along the way.  Sometimes these type cruises are used to bring ships back to the US and Caribbean from Europe.  So a ship may leave Dover, England, stop in Spain, the CAnary ISlands and end up in Miami ready to start doing cruises from there.

  3. A repositioning cruise is what occurs when a cruise line has been running trips in the Pacific ocean for the summer and wants to switch to the Atlantic ocean for the winter. They need to get the boat through the Panama Canal for the new season. So to make money off it they set up a repositioning cruise where they have passengers pay to be on board cruising while they do that. They get where they need to go and the customers enjoy a unique itinerary while paying the line's expenses.

  4. A repositioning cruise is when a line is changing the destination of the cruise.  For example.  At the end of the Europe Season a cruise will take a repositioning cruise to the Caribbean.

prepositional is a new ship sailing from the ship yard to its first destination for the cruises.  this term is not really used though.
