What's a reasonable weekly salary for a part time nanny in Syracuse?

I'm looking for a part time nanny (about 10 hours per week) just to play with my 18 month old toddler while I tend to my newborn or do household duties. I will be home while she is there. She will not need to do anything other than make sure my toddler is being monitored and staying out of trouble. What would a reasonable weekly salary be for a nanny working 10 hours a week in Syracuse?

  1. I'm 19 and also live in Syracuse, so I know the going rates in our area.  My friends and I all get 10 an hour for babysitting.  If you are looking for someone 18 or older, I would say go with ten an hour.  If you are looking for a younger sitter (which since your home, it would be cheaper and a good opportunity for a 14 or 15 year old to get some experience, and possibly become a "date-night" sitter later on), for a 14 or 15 year old, I would give minimum wage ($7.15).  I would pay $8 for a 15 year old, and $9 for a 17 year old.  I find it important not to give anyone less than minimum wage, while it is in my opinion not about the money, the sitter could still be elsewhere making minimum wage.  I tend to consider 17 a good age to hire a babysitter at, but since your home, I would say if there is a responsible 14-16 year old, its a great opportunity for all of you.  It's good that you are concerned with your toddler getting enough attention and play time, it can be really tough for a child that age to adjust with a new family member taking much of your time.  Good luck, hope I helped.

  2. In California babysitters are getting $10.00 an hour.

  3. maybe $80-$100. You're not offering that many hours, so perhaps you can find a responsible teenager, around 16 to do it too.

In NYC, we pay around $15 an hour for short time frames like that, but that's Manhattan, upstate is a bit different
