A wireless router plugs into your modem via an ethernet cable enabling you to use your internet wirlessely also most routers allow 4 more ethernet sockets as well. More than one computer can use the wireless internet at one time and four computers can use the free ethernet connecters

So if your computers/laptops have a wireless card or wireless adapter connected then you will be up and running to use wireless internet.

Look on the bottom of the router. It should have the brand, model and version number of the router.
