I've been doing some research and i think they cost pretty much the same. I like the way the elantra looks a bit better but im guessing toyota is a better make, although it would be a couple years older. any advice would be appreciated.

also whats the lowest price you think i can talk a dealer down to on either one?

  1. The Elantra is a better car in every way except fuel economy but even that is only by 1 to 2 mpg. The 05 Corolla is actually a previous generation model, while not bad, it's a generation behind the 07 Elantra. The Elantra is bigger, has a stronger engine and is more comfortable then the 05 Corolla. If it's a Elantra SE or Limited it will have Electronic Stability Control and Traction Control.

Hyundai has improved so much the Elantra SE was named top pick in it's class http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/23390986/

And also got a rating of "excellent" for reliability by them as well.

If it's a SE or Limited Elantra grab it quick.

Times have changed. Hyundai's IMO are near the level of Japanese cars.

  2. depending on your overall usage of the car.  My OPINION... if you intend to keep the car more than 2-3 years, AND drive more than 13-15,000 miles/yr.  Than definately go with the Corolla.  if this is a Short term fix or transition car, then The Elantra should still be under factory warranty and would/should be problem free and much cheaper to get into and operate.  I've got to assume both these cars with average miles,(15K/YR)  and in excellent condition.

Hyundai has a great Factory Warranty, but you need to verify what is covered for how long if you are not buying it Brand new.

the only other side to consider is Loan Term, if you finance the car for 4 or more years, then you'd better plan on Keeping the Elantra at least as long as the loan term since thier resale values fall off quickly.

Last part of your question, Hyundai easy to negotiate price, thier are a million out there and nobody CRAVES these cars because it says HYUNDAI (old stigma... still hurts its image)

Toyota Corolla, Very HIGHLY popular and sought after car, many people willing to pay a premium for the name.  Thus high resale, and much less likely to get any significant DEAL on one.

My opinion, by an Elantra or other small car that size with 12-20K miles, 2007 or 2008 Used, Find a reputable, WHOLESALE BROKER to get you one on order, should be paying about $1000 over NADA Loan Value, for something like this.  check your local market internet.  Good luck
