  3. A tracking cookie is a small packet of data put on your computer by a website that tracks the different websites that you go to and reports back.  Not all cookies are bad, for example, if you check "Remember me" when signing into Yahoo, then a cookie is put in on your computer to tell Yahoo who you are when you visit the site.  The best way to get rid of malicious cookies and other software is to use the free version of Ad-Aware available at: www.lavasoft.com

Phishing is when someone tries to trick you into  giving out personal information by making you believe that you are signing up for a legitimate service.

  4. A tracking cookie is just what it sounds like.  It's a cookie (a text-based file) that is placed on your computer.  Information is stored in this cookie that identifies you as a unique visitor, and is used to track your web browsing.  There are legitimate and non-threatening uses for a tracking cookie, but there's also the slim possiblity that it can be exploited.

Phishing is the practice of getting personal information from you, such as passwords or personal information that can be used to steal money or your identity from you.
