i'm pretty little, about 100 pounds. i'm also on my high school swim team, and my coach has been pounding us to eat lots, but unfortunately i can only fit so much into me. =)

what are some food options to keep the energy going ? i have to stay healthy, and we swim about 3 hours a day. i looked up some things that michael phelps eats, but there's no way i'd actually be capable of eating that much.

any ideas ?

  1. If you are me then you know how much practice you are getting in, eat swim relax... so the typical diet i would say is 6,000 calories... but that is for a 12-14 year old age group, and more calories won't hurt i eat about 60,000 calories a day!!!

  2. Eat lots of plant-based carbs like sweet potatoes(healthier than potatos),whole wheat pastas, oatmeal, brown rice, torillas, and beans. Don't forget fruits and veggies too. Snack on something healthy like roasted almonds throughout the day if your hungry.

  3. simple answer is Carbohydrates. It is hard to tell what your diet is composed of, but eating Carbohydrates with out the Fat, and the right amount of protein can allow you to eat far more calories. Ensure you eat carbohydrates/sugars 15-30 after workouts to replenish those depleted energy storage. One thing to try and do is to eat throughout the day. Make sure you have healthy snacks such as fruits and low fat foods. If you are looking at protein supplements I would look into a nutritionist, and skim milk powder is a an excellent way of adding protein to your beverages, to add more protein for cheap.

Bottom line is if you reduce the excess amounts of heavy foods such as protein and fat rich meals you can eat a lot more.

  4. Lots of carbohydrates.  Calories in general, too.  Try drinking a cup of olive oil after a competition in order to replenish calories and build mass.

  5. dont eat. just swim and drink the water from the pool.. lol j/p Im not sure google it...

  6. Back in college my team and I usually just go for lots of carbs, carbo loading. Makes for excellent weight training. Then between 1 month or 2 weeks we go on a diet.
