What's all this whining the international press is writing about Team USA?

Question

30 minutes after their victory and the internet is filled with news articles about how team USA "slipped" in the gold medal game. And those doubtfull foul calls? Those kind of calls went both ways. Never judge a battle from an armchair!

IT WAS A WIN!!!

No other team in the Olympics (in any sport) than the USA-basketball squad could win with 11 points and still be described as "struggling".

Which just proves to the whole world how good they are in what they do, I think.

People were expecting the US men's team to beat Spain by at least 25, and because they won by 11, the US "lost" the game.

All teams have played under the rules FIBA except USA, as always. Steps do not exist for the American team, for example, while that for rest of teams yes.

Yes, the refereing went with Team US. I don't they they need it that way. But dont' worry, on te whole, I wouldn't say the US victory was undeserved. It was deserved, in spite of all this uncalled fouls and violations.

That's what the internatinal press is pointing out; What would have happened had the referees called the fouls and called the travellings???

The winner would have been decided in tha last seconds of the game.

P.S: J.R, yes US won that game against Spain by 40 points. You know why?? Because that was a group stage match that dindn't mean a d**n thing. Both teams were already qualified and Spain wasn't thinking of playing a win or die kind of game then, nor about showing up their abilities or tactics to the US team.

The U.S. standard compared to the rest of the world is really high.  Anything less than a gold medal in this Olympics would be considered a disappointment for the Men's U.S.A. Basketball Team.  The reason why winning by 11 points has failed expectation has to do with the fact that this was the same Spanish team that was beaten by the U.S. by 37 points in the preliminary.

rtorto - I was thinking the same thing too.  Spain was too good of a team to get blasted by that much points and this game proved it.  I believe the U.S.A. basketball team underestimated the Spanish team and boy, did they get caught off guard.  That was a nice strategy as well as a strong performance game by the Spaniards.

It's not that, but the match was so tough for the USA team that the sensation is that USA won just by a few details and not by 30 points as some people thought.

USA basketball is miles a head of any country out there.

Spain played hard, but get real the USA players were being

pushed and shoved all over the place.... the teams got the

same calls... The game was too close and that is why it is getting

any press at all... Spain was surprised they didn't lose by 40 again.

USA will  NEVER EVER EVER give up there gold medal in men's basketball. We will win it from now on. America still has the edge in

the hoops world... I would like to see any other country go through

the tournament destroying ever team they faced like the Americans did... What did we beat teams by 32 points a game or something?

Stop your crying you sour pusses! I was laughing while watching the game... All the Spaniards crying, throwing towels on the court.. After watching the game, I know that Spain has a bunch of poor-sport-cry-babies on the team. Fat Marc Gasol was pushing people all over the place and no fouls were called... but you didn't see us Americans crying like a bunch of 3 year olds... There is no Country even close to the American's skill in basketball.... Spanish basketball is about as exciting as going to the Dentist.

US won and deserve credit for the best final game I can remember in the Olympics.  Both teams scored over 100.  After beating this team by 36 a week ago, it looks like the US took them a bit light.  Kobe was amazing at the end.  Great game.
