(PhD Physicist responds) Basically, a transducer is any device that turns one form of energy into another.  A speaker turns electrical energy into sound.  A microphone turns sound into electricity.  A light bulb turns electricity into light. A solar cell turns light into electricity.  Most transducers can be run backwards, if somewhat inefficiently.  A speaker can be used as a microphone.  A solar cell can be used as an LED.
