I'm trying to get ready for an intense backpacking trip in January. I have a lot of time but lately I've been combining endurance and weight training. Since school just started that weight has come in the form of my backpack (biology books suck) which has been weighed to be about 50 pounds and endurance is in my bike. I try to bike to school. The thing is lately it's been hot and this little routine is killing me. I have to get off the bike almost every half mile just to freaking breathe, plus my back aches already. Every night I'm sore and feeling drained. Is there a way to make this easier cuz right now it's hellish.

  1. Cancel your trip if you can't handle the workouts. You're having a hard time riding 5 miles? Are you 80 years old?

On your bike you should drink more water to handle the heat. Also try getting in a lighter gear to spin your pedals at about 80-90 RPMs (revolutions per minute). Go to a bike shop and get one of those back wheel attachments that carry your cargo (books). Breathe in through your nose and into your diaphragm to get more oxygen into your bloodstream. Eat nutritious meals and get adequate rest.
