What's an elo rating?

this dude i was playing with was 20. I am 12 actually. i put fake information(hey i'm just playing chess). He asked what's your elo rating. I think it was the numbers, but i said i don't know. He said that i played unorthodoxly or whatever and i might be cheating. i play anyone who can play. mostly from 6th graders-9th graders and my brother and my dad. Any help?

a official rating, gained by playing in tournaments

it is actually a player's rating if they join an official ranking tournament, don't mind them because you cannot cheat in Chess because there are only two players and unlike card games everything is bare and both players can see the other's pieces even young people could win over older guys it depends on how good you are and unlike other sports where in age and height matters here you can be a good player at the age of 5 until your 80 just like Bobby Fischer
